A list of CPET's services
This website provides detailed information on the UK Government’s timber procurement policy and advice on how public sector buyers and their suppliers can meet these policy requirements in practice. Background information is available on how these practical solutions were developed, including the types of evidence that demonstrate legality and sustainability and the criteria for evaluating such evidence. Information on this website is provided for general use and access is not restricted.
CPET also operates a Helpline. The Helpline is only available to public sector buyers and their suppliers, and is designed to provide advice on how to meet the government’s timber procurement policy for legality and sustainability. Specific advice can be provided to individual enquirers on whether the information for a particular product is adequate. The CPET Helpline can be accessed by telephoning 01865 243766 01865 243766 or by emailing cpet@proforest.net .
Training workshops are another service offered by CPET to assist government procurement personnel and their suppliers in meeting government timber procurement policy requirements. For details of CPET's current and upcoming activities including upcoming workshops, please visit the Activities and News page.
In addition, CPET will continue with the assessment of evidence to determine whether forest sources qualify as legal and sustainable. Potential evidence includes both certified material (Category A evidence) and other types of documentation (Category B evidence). Category A evidence requires the regular assessment of existing certification schemes by CPET to establish which ones currently deliver the policy requirements as defined by the government criteria for assessing schemes. Category B evidence can be extremely variable and requires case by case assessment of the evidence provided.
Please note that CPET does not provide advice on technical timber specification or on identifying specific certified suppliers. However, a number of other organisations are able to provide advice on these matters.
