Engaging with Local Authorities together with WWF UK and TTF
28 September 2009
The Central Point of Expertise on Timber (CPET), the Timber Trade Federation (TTF) and WWF are working together to provide practical advice to Local Authorities on responsible timber procurement. This initiative is supported by Defra and by Local Partnerships.
As a first step, we have sent letters to Councillors in England and Wales to convince them of the need to adopt responsible timber procurement policies in order to combat illegal logging, promote the use of wood a truly renewable resource, and mitigate climate change. We also informed them about the free of charge support that is available to Local Authorities in the UK and have followed-up via email with relevant contacts in Local Authorities.
Together, we have developed a toolkit that provides background information, step-by-step guidance for developing and implementing a responsible timber procurement policy as well as off the shelf documents and case studies. The CPET workshops are available to Local Authorities but one-to-one support can also be organised.
We invite Local Authorities, as well as other bodies receiving public funding such as universities and colleges to get in touch.
Nick Moss will be first contact point for our initiative, but the other organisations welcome your enquiries. Their contacts can be found in our Local Authority leaflet. We look forward to hearing from you.
