Invitation to comment
June 2007
Starting on the 5th of July 2007, stakeholders are invited to submit comments to CPET regarding the practical implementation of the changes to the timber procurement policy in 2009.
The consultation period will run for 12 weeks, ending on the 27th of September 2007. Comments will be accepted by email, fax and post. Those interested in submitting should refer to the CPET website for correspondence details.
Initial discussions have raised some questions about the details of implementation and the consultation period is being run in order to identify any further questions and develop potential solutions.
A background document detailing some of the issues raised to date will be available for download on the CPET website. The policy change announced for 2009 builds on the current requirement for legal timber at a minimum and a preference for sustainable timber, requiring that ‘From 1 April 2009 only timber and timber products originating either from independently verified legal and sustainable sources or from a licensed Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT) partner will be demanded for use on the Government estate - appropriate documentation will be required to prove it. From 1 April 2015, only legal and sustainable timber would be demanded;’.
Please refer to the Review & Comment section of the website for full details.
