New section for Local Authorities on CPET’s website

April 2009

CPET’s website has a new section dedicated to Local Authorities (LAs) interested in adopting a sustainable timber procurement policy.

Local Authorities are key actors in the timber and wood products markets in the UK and their position regarding timber procurement has as great an impact as UK Central Government on international forestry and climate change issues. Local Authorities are therefore a main target for the awareness strategy of the UK Government’s timber procurement policy and CPET is glad to announce that they are now working closely in partnership with WWF-UK and the Timber Trade Federation (TTF) on this.

Several LAs have already started drafting their own responsible procurement policies and should be applauded for this effort. However, difficulties occurred with the implementation of their policies, especially when suppliers contested clarity over facts and definitions.

The Local Authorities section of the CPET website provides tailored information, a step-by-step guide to implementation, copy-paste model documents (i.e. contract clauses and specifications), case studies and responses to frequently asked questions.

CPET also provides free of charge support to LAs adopting a sustainable timber procurement policy, giving practical advice on drafting a policy as well as on its day-to-day implementation.

The CPET training sessions are also open to LA staff and suppliers/contractors. Find the Local Authorities section here.
