Who is the training for and why do you need it?
The UK government’s Timber Procurement Policy requires all timber and wood products to be from legal and sustainable sources or FLEGT licensed timber.
The Central Point of Expertise on Timber Procurement (CPET) is a service of the UK government which assists public sector personnel and their suppliers and contractors in implementing the Timber Procurement Policy to ensure legality and sustainability of timber and wood products purchased/supplied.
The Timber Procurement Policy is mandatory for all Central Government Departments, Executive Agencies and Non Departmental Public Bodies and CPET is working in partnership with WWF to encourage local authorities to implement policies on timber procurement.
There is no charge to attend the workshop for the public sector and public sector suppliers and contractors. The workshop is funded by the UK Government’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
Of particular interest to CIPS members, our half day CPET workshops count as 3 CPD hours.
What will the workshop cover?
The workshop will give you hands-on-tools to implement the Timber Procurement Policy, or if you are a supplier, the tools you need to ensure sustainability of timber and wood products you wish to supply, and provide expertise in:
· Implementation of the TPP;
· Specification and contract clauses (model text to copy-paste is available);
· The types of evidence that are available and how to check them, including forest certification schemes FSC and PEFC.
Attendees will work through several case studies to examine the types of evidence available, so as to ensure confidence in implementing a policy and assessing and collecting evidence back in the work place.
As an additional service, CPET will be holding a Responsible Timber Purchasing Surgery, after the workshop. Attendees are encouraged to bring along any sourcing information they might have, for 1-2-1 support with the CPET Project Manager.
How to sign up
Participants must register for places on the workshops. The number of attendees is limited and spaces are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. However, if the workshop is over-subscribed, priority will be given to eligible users.
