Useful Links for Palm Oil

DECC - Biofuels  The UK Government’s Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) website provides a short summary of some of the key issues surrounding biofuels.

Defra  The UK Government’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs website provides a detailed overview of the key issues related to deforestation, illegal logging and palm oil. It has a link to a useful study which maps the scale of UK palm oil consumption across a range of sectors, as well as action already being taken on sustainability.

The Department for Transport  DfT’s website provides detailed information on the regulatory, technical and trade issues related to biofuels, including palm oil.

Belgian Alliance for Sustainable Palm Oil  The Belgian Alliance for Sustainable Palm Oil is an industry initiative which aims to ensure all palm oil present in food products destined for the Belgian market is sustainable by the end of 2015.

Dutch Taskforce for Sustainable Palm Oil  The Dutch Task Force for Sustainable Palm Oil is a food and animal feed industry initiative, which aims to ensure that all palm oil destined for the Dutch market is sustainable, by the end of 2015 through promoting the use of RSPO certified palm oil in the Netherlands

RSPO - Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil  RSPO is a not-for-profit association that unites stakeholders from oil palm producers, palm oil processors or traders, consumer goods manufacturers, retailers, banks and investors, environmental or nature conservation NGOs and social or developmental NGOs - to develop and implement global standards for sustainable palm oil.

Greenpalm  GreenPalm is a certificate trading programme and has been endorsed by RSPO as the official broker for the trade in sustainable palm oil certificates. The certification trading programme allows manufacturers or retailers to bid for and buy sustainable palm oil certificates submitted for sale by producers on the GreenPalm web based trading platform.

ZSL  ZSL’s Biodiversity and Oil Palm project is working to develop practical guidance that can assist the palm oil industry to reduce the impact it has on wildlife.

EU Food Labelling Regulations no 1169/2011  The EC Food Labelling Regulation requires that the types of vegetable oil used in food, such as palm oil, must be specified on food labels. The requirement is mandatory from the 13th December 2014.

WWF Palm Oil Buyers' Scorecard  The Palm Oil Buyers’ Scorecard 2011, developed by WWF measures the performance of 132 major retailers and consumer goods manufacturers against 4 areas which show whether these companies are acting responsibly.
